Day 2 and 3 of World Cruise

Still on January 16th, departure day. After dinner, we went back to the cabin. As we sailed closer to the Verrazano Narrows Bridge, we went out on the balcony to see the bridge, watch the Police Patrol boats scurry about the river as they followed us out of the harbor. To close out the day, we went to the Royal Court Theatre to watched the Cunard singers and dancers do their thing.
Tuesday, Jan 17th at sea.
We got up early and had breakfast in the Lido restaurant. The Lido is a serve yourself buffet for those who don’t want the much more formal Britannia Restaurant. Later in the morning, we attended Insight Lectures by Robert Neal Marshall, “Three Cunard Queens: The Royal Rendezvous, Farewells and New Beginnings. All things Cunard.
The second lecture was by Seth Gopin on “The Rise of the American Skyscraper”. After the lectures, it was time for lunch in the Britannia Restaurant, open seating. In time, some of these blog entries are going to become very repetitious. We spent the afternoon with more exploration of the ship and getting everything in its place in the cabin.
Dinner was in the Britannia, informal dress. We have two type of dress for dinner. Informal requires a jacket for men, tie optional. Cocktail dress, stylish separates or equivalent for ladies. Formal attire requires dinner jacket, tuxedo or dark suit with tie for gentlemen. Evening or cocktail dress for ladies. Dinner in the Lido restaurant can be a lot less formal if you don’t want to get dressed up.
Wednesday, Jan18th at sea
We had breakfast in the Britannia Restaurant and then did some laundry. Our laundry is just across the passage way. It has three washers, three dryers and one iron and ironing board. Just enough room for four people. The good news, the washers and dryers are free and the soap is free. The hard part, finding an empty washer. We will probably will write more about the laundry room as the wars happen. Insights lectures for the day were Seth Gopin, “Home Away From Home: Colonial Architecture in the New World”. Robert Neal Marshall, “History of the Newsreels from Edison to D-Day”.
A formal dinner night in Britannia restaurant and the Royal Cunard Dancers in the Theatre.
Sent a couple of emails to my brother, sister and sister-in-law who will meet us tomorrow in Fort Lauderdale tomorrow.
